As much as we’ve loved the painted feather decorations that adorned the Petunia Boutique and our seaside HQ this summer, DeNai recently decided to refresh the design of our creative space for the new season. And leave it to Petunia Pickle Bottom’s fashionable Founder & Designer (and Crafter-in-Chief) to kick off the fall “back to school” season with decorations torn straight from the pages of texts.
The bookish theme of our new decor includes several fun and easy DIY crafts using little more than pages of paperbacks and a bit of paint. (Note: no classics were harmed in the making of these crafts.)
Click through for DeNai’s tips for making a DIY Hanging Book Page Accordion, as well as other projects, including: Paperback Paper Chains, Polka Dot Garland and Paint-Dipped Print Leaves.
• used paperback book (1 per accordion)
• craft paint in your favorite color (optional)
In addition to folding paperback pages into accordion ornaments, pages can be cut into circles of varying sizes, and then strung two-sided onto a length of twine along with paint-dipped craft paper to create a Polka Dot Paper Garland. Or cut pages into three-inch wide strips and glue together to create a Paperback Paper Chain. A fun way to decorate with book pages for fall is to cut pages into leaf shapes and dip the tips in pretty-colored paint. Glue the leaves to dried branches and arrange in a vase for a pretty display of Paint-Dipped Print Leaves.
