DeNai Jones, our Co-Founder and Head Designer, recently packed her Wistful Weekender and headed to one of her favorite California getaways: Palm Springs! Whether taking a fun family vacation with her kids, or enjoying a quiet weekend retreat with her husband, this desert playground has plenty to offer year-round. Read below for DeNai’s personal tips on places to stay, things to do and sights to see.
For a Family Vacation:
Places to stay: When my husband and I travel to Palm Springs with the boys, we find that renting a small, modern house is the way to go. We find these using some of our favorite vacation rental websites like Kid & Coe, AirBnB and VRBO. Kid & Coe is especially great for traveling with kids. We enjoy having some of the luxuries a home has to offer: a kitchen, separate bedrooms, and if we’re lucky, a pool. Sometimes I even bring a slip n’ slide!
Things to do: We keep it pretty simple in regards to an agenda because in all honesty, our little ones just want to play in the pool. Palm Springs has a lot to offer if you want to venture out with the family: the Living Desert Zoo, Palm Springs Air Museum, and the peak tram. With the heat, even just a trip to get frozen yogurt is a fun outing!
What to pack: I always pack my Wistful Weekender and few Faraway Fold-out Totes when I travel. The Hideaway Hobo is my new go-to bag for day-time explorations downtown. It has plenty of pockets and a silhouette that is ideal for moms of older children as well as young ones. I also like to bring along water toys, floaties, and snacks for the boys when we head to Palm Springs.
For a Quiet Weekend Getaway:
Places to stay: When my husband and I need a grown-up getaway, Korakia Pensione is one of our favorite destinations to stay. With a Moroccan style villas and a relaxing pool, this bed & breakfast oasis keeps us coming back year after year. It’s a great spot to unwind and to really spend some quality time together.
Things to do: We enjoy strolling through the art museum, taking the peak tram to enjoy lunch with a view, browsing the antique shops, or finding a great spot for a bite to eat. Some of our favorite restaurants are Johanne’s (for a seasonal menu), Spencer’s at the Mountain (for their great piano bar and equally great food), and Las Casuelas (for a refreshing margarita). And of course, we enjoy relaxing at Korakia too!
What to pack: A good book and a bathing suit are essentials for a relaxing desert vacay. Sometimes I bring along my drawing pad and some pencils in case I find myself feeling inspired, which I often do…
