Traveling with Kids

Traveling with Kids

School is out – if you have children who attend – and summer vacation is here! So, we’d like to dedicate this travel post to making the most of sunny adventures with your little ones. Whether you’re driving two hours away or taking a plane ride twelve hours away, here are some simple suggestions for your planning process. Read on for our tips on how to pack, plan and lodge smarter with your tiny tots in tow.

1. Pack Smarter: Whether you’re traveling by plane, train or automobile, we recommend packing the important things in a place where you can get to them easily. The Wistful Weekender is our go-to pick for trips, with its plenty of pocks and zippered main compartment. When traveling with little ones, we always pack plenty of snacks and a few toys to pass the time, a change of clothes for little spills and our Haven Nursing Cover. If your babies are using pacifiers, we recommend packing extras! How do those things seem to always disappear?!

2: Plan Smarter: Our friends over at Tropic of Candycorn have a must-visit website that serves as a sort of kid-friendly travel resource. They specialize in planning family trips, and boy are they good at it! Stop by their website for international inspiration, destination ideas, and gear suggestions. For additional summer family vacation ideas, we turn to parents.com, La Jolla Mom, friends and family, and of course, Google.

3. Lodge Smarter: Choose kid-friendly lodging whenever possible. By that, we mean stay somewhere that makes your trip easier and more enjoyable for your tiniest travelers. One of our favorite websites for booking kid-friendly accommodations is Kid & Coe— think Air B&B, but for families with children. That’s right! Home owners from around the world (literally, they have destinations all over)  list their beautiful and well-designed properties for families to rent. Since children live in those homes every day, books and toys are waiting at your destination, along with the necessary amenities you may need, and easy access to activities your littlest ones will enjoy. Plus, the founders know what it’s like to travel with kids; they are mothers and fathers themselves!
