What prompted you to open Chicky Bella?
Chicky Bella opened on February 1, 2007 – and was simply a result of ‘lifelong dream meets incredible opportunity’. I always knew I wanted to have my own business, and I was lucky enough that when life presented me the opportunity, my husband and I were able to make it happen. Chicky Bella fits in well in our community. While there are lots of fabulous places to shop in Arizona, we love being able to offer our customers a boutique experience wrapped up with oodles of personalized customer service and true attention to detail – along with seriously cool mom and baby gear, which can be found in the store or online at www.chickybella.com!

What about your business brings you the most satisfaction?
Our customers! The best part of this business is getting to know our customers and their families. After a mom delivers her new baby, it’s the best when she visits to show off her little bundle of perfect – and completely fun when we see how she is using all the cool stuff she was able to find at Chicky Bella!

How do you set yourself apart from the competition? Any special events? A niche you focus on?
Chicky Bella is just a fun place to be (really, it is!). We love kids and encourage them to have fun in the store. We enjoy spending time with them almost as much as we do their parents! At Chicky Bella you will always find a huge candy jar (or 2 or 3) stocked with all your favorites and everyone is encouraged to partake…getting sugared up at Chicky Bella is the best part of anyone’s day! We also really enjoy providing our customers with many of the new, hip, fun-yet-functional products on the market. We are always looking for the next “it” thing that will make our customers swoon (or at least ponder…). And of course, Chicky Bella is always good for a party! We love celebrating just about anything and are always looking for a reason to invite absolutely everyone out for a special night of food, socializing, and of course....shopping!

Top 5 things people are buying today and why?
It’s almost as if this is a trick question....since without a doubt the #1 product we sell is Petunia Pickle Bottom! Diaper bags, especially the boxy backpacks and the new Cake collection, are at the top of our customers’ requests. #2 is baby slings, #3 is nursing covers, #4 maternity tees – particularly the Tummy T’s, and #5 is the any of the super cool tees from PeaceLoveMom. All five of these products truly describe our core customer – Pregnant or not, she wears truly groovy t-shirts, slings on her uber-hip diaper bag packed with ever-practical baby accessories, and breezes through the day as a savvy, modern, and oh-so functional mama!

 Your favorite product or brand at the moment? Why?
I absolutely adore the Pistachio Layer Cake Cosmopolitan Carryall! It’s so vintage and funky, and the colors just speak to me. Another little nugget that I love is any CD by Rockabye Baby – a true must-have for any parent who puts a child to sleep at night!

 Any fun facts about your store that most people wouldn't know?
This little fact is probably more sentimental than fun, but I would love to share it…I was struggling greatly to come up with the perfect name for the boutique. Frustrated, I did the only thing I could think of – I called my mom! She kept vetoing every name I had on my list, which numbered around 40 or so. Finally, I mentioned this name that kept popping out at me (and for some strange reason I was avoiding) – Chicky Bella. Overwhelmed with emotion, my mother explained to me that Chicky Bella - which means “beautiful girl” in Italian – was her only sister’s nickname given to her by my grandfather as a little girl. My Aunt Phyllis passed away over 30 years ago, and to this day is greatly missed by everyone in our family. My Aunt Phyllis was, and always will be, a great inspiration to me. She was a mother to six boys, and I can’t help wishing for her guidance as I raise my own three boys. I truly believe her vivacious, fun-loving, woman-of-her-time personality is reflected in the ideals we hold dearly at Chicky Bella.

Yes! We recently launched our website www.chickybella.com, of which we are incredibly proud! It’s a great website and I believe it is a reflection of who we are and what you can expect from Chicky Bella. Of course, no surprise here…Petunia Pickle Bottom is our website’s #1 seller!
